Today's Prayer Point:

Lesotho faces great challenges. The HIV infection rate is among the highest in the world (23.2%). Family breakdown, poverty, unemployment, and limited access to water frustrate daily life. The people and the government struggle to cope with these burdens. Pray for wise leadership and creative ways to improve quality of life. Mission Aviation Fellowship planes transport medical supplies and Christian workers in this mountainous country with few roads. The mountain peoples are much less reached because of their isolated location. Christian radio reaches many in the lowlands, even non-churchgoers. Scripture Union shares God’s Word with young people through school groups.

Pray for fruitful ministry in this needy land.

Today's Prayer Point:

Liberia has a complex and painful history, including racism and colonialism. It endured terrible conflict from 1985-2005. But praise God for the stability and peace of recent years. Hundreds of thousands of refugees returned, a new president came to power (the former leader was exiled), the country began to rebuild, and Christian ministry began to thrive once again. Liberia has an atmosphere of hope and progress, despite the obvious challenges which remain from the civil wars and the devastation and trauma they caused.

Pray that Liberia might truly fulfil its name as a “land of freedom”.

Today's Prayer Point:

After the fall of long-time ruler Qaddafi in 2011, Libya became a land divided by civil war between different factions. Radical Islamists such as ISIS and smaller local groups took advantage of the chaos to seize control of some towns. Meanwhile, external powers supported the different factions, and foreign countries, “defence suppliers” and smugglers profited by arming the various combatants. Libya’s people suffered greatly during this time, with many thousands of casualties and 60% of the population malnourished. Praise God for the signing of a permanent ceasefire in 2020. But elections planned for 2021 have been indefinitely postponed, so Libya remains in political and development limbo. May God have mercy upon this land and its people!

Pray for a resolution to the issue of governance, for the rebuilding of infrastructure that enables communities to thrive, and most of all, for an opening of these lands and people to the gospel.

Liechtenstein is a constitutional principality, and has some ties with Switzerland. The Prince’s family have always been Catholic, as are the native citizens, though most do not actively practise their faith. The numbers of Muslims and non-religious people grow. British, Norwegian, and Swiss believers started the only evangelical fellowship in 1985. Some of the extended royal family have connections with the Catholic charismatic renewal movement, and profess personal faith in Christ.

Pray that the extended royal family’s might profess personal faith in Christ and lead the effort toward a nationwide renewal movement.

Freedom brought good progress. Doors for the gospel remain open! However, freedom also brought dangers like greed for material goods, selfish pleasure-seeking, and a belief that traditional morals have no value. Substance abuse, suicide, and trafficking of women for prostitution all damage the social foundations. Spiritual transformation must accompany economic growth. Lithuania was the last European nation to be Christianized.

Pray that God will bring massive social change through His people!

Nearly half the population of Luxembourg are expatriates. The resulting growth of other faiths presents a challenge to traditional faith. Islam, Orthodoxy, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Eastern mysticism and the multiplication of Protestant and Independent groups have transformed this small nation into a melting pot of religious expression. Pray that believers in the Lord Jesus might seek and make use of chances to share the gospel, and help shape the nation according to biblical principles.

The old beliefs still prevail in many ways, despite the growth and spread of Christianity. Compromise with the old beliefs, veneration of ancestral spirits, and witchcraft is widespread among those who claim to be Christian. A Christian veneer often prevails, but many have little understanding of the biblical message of salvation. Many churches appear to be spiritually dead and in numerical decline, particularly in mainline denominations. Revival as well as biblical teaching and leadership are urgently needed.

Pray for a new move of the Holy Spirit to reawaken these churches that have such a strong legacy.
